More than meets the eye

The more esoteric properties of wood

When something has been around since the dawn of time, it invariably gets caught up in myth and legend. Properties of an ephemeral nature develop alongside more obvious ones. Timber is no exception. Whether you believe is not important. The fact remains that wood is important to all of us. On a practical level we use timber for building, for furniture, utensils, the list is extensive. But let us not forget that trees help power our world, capturing carbon and providing the air we breathe.

It is a privilege to work with such a characterful material. Warm to the touch, inherently strong and unbelievably beautiful. I am never disappointed as the grain finally reveals itself under the final waxing.

Can't see the wood for the trees? The next time you get a chance to stroll a woodland path, take a moment to contemplate its beauty. You'll thank me for it.
